Aug. 14 (UPI) — The Young & the Restless star Eric Braeden announces he is now cancer-free.
The 82-year-old actor shared an update on Sunday after being diagnosed with bladder cancer earlier this year.
In a video on Facebook Live, Braeden expressed his gratitude to fans for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
“I wanted to speak to you tonight to express my gratitude for all of the positive thoughts and prayers. They have meant the world to me, and I can confidently say that they have made a difference. I underwent my most recent cystoscopy two days ago, and I am thrilled to announce that I am now cancer-free. They couldn’t find anything at all. Isn’t that wonderful?” Braeden shared.
Braeden first revealed his cancer diagnosis in April through a public announcement. He underwent surgery and received immunotherapy for both low-grade and high-grade cancerous cells that were discovered near his bladder.
During his update on Sunday, Braeden mentioned that he will be undergoing additional treatment due to the presence of high-grade cancer cells.
The actor will receive three prophylactic infusions to combat the cancer in his bladder with “a substance that is known to eliminate the cancer.” Braeden is currently awaiting the results of a recent MRI to determine if the cancer has spread.
“Once these treatments are completed, I should be free from cancer for a while. Periodic cystoscopies every few months will be conducted as a proactive measure to detect and combat any potential recurrence. I refuse to let it control my life,” Braeden added.
Braeden has portrayed Victor Newman on The Young & the Restless since 1980. The long-running CBS soap opera is currently in its 50th season.
