The Voice Season 24 Playoffs wrapped up on Tuesday, and Team Legend’s final six singers were probably not what anyone expected to see on his team. John Legend started with a strong group of eight four-chair-turn contestants, but by this point in the season, his final six included three Steals: Mac Royals, Kristen Brown, and Azán, and one Save: Taylor Deneen. Only two singers on his team, Lila Forde and Kaylee Shimizu, had won every step of the way up until now. Despite this, John made some wise choices and the future looks bright for his team.
Mac Royals, Steal from Team Reba, put on a memorable performance of D’Angelo’s “Untitled (How Does It Feel”) that captured the audience. His performance made him seem like he had already won the show, even catching the attention of industry veterans Niall Horan and Gwen Stefani.
As the three Team Legend contestants moving on to the live semifinals were announced, unsurprisingly, Mac’s name was called first. This show is known for not promoting its past champions well, but Royals is on his way to becoming a star regardless.
The Voice fans can also look forward to the performances of Azán, Kristen Brown, Kaylee Shimizu, Taylor Deneen, and Lila Forde. Azán amazed with her rendition of Miguel’s “Adorn,” while Kristen stripped back her performance of Lady A’s “Need You Now” but still wowed the judges. Kaylee and Taylor also showcased their talents with challenging songs, while Lila charmed the judges with her performance of “Angel From Montgomery.”
John’s team is still stacked despite the initial skepticism, and it’s also worth noting that John’s Super-Save was the only one worth the cue card it was written on, since none this season’s other three Super-Saves ultimately made the top 12. John explained that he needed to “reward” Azán for “rising to the occasion” this week.
The rest of the top 12 singers come from Team Niall, Team Gwen, and Team Reba. Among those singers, Huntley and Ruby are expected to be Mac’s stiffest competition, but anything could happen once the decisions are in viewers’ hands. The Lives commence next Monday, so be sure to tune in for more of The Voice.
