Authorities have captured three out of four suspects who allegedly participated in a store robbery, according to an announcement made by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday.
The robbery occurred around 5:50 p.m. on Friday at a store located in the 17000 block of Van Buren Boulevard in the unincorporated area of Woodcrest.
The store clerk, who is a juvenile, informed deputies that three men entered the store, selected multiple items, and proceeded to conceal them. When she tried to approach them, one of the suspects struck her, causing her to fall.
Afterwards, the suspects quickly fled the store and were observed getting into a newer-model silver sedan that was waiting in the parking lot.
According to multiple witnesses, the driver accelerated at a high speed, narrowly avoiding collision with several vehicles before ultimately losing control. The vehicle crashed into a street sign and fence at the intersection of Van Buren and Ranch Road.
All of the suspects exited the vehicle and fled the scene before deputies arrived. With assistance from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau K9 team, a perimeter was set up in an effort to locate the suspects.
During the search, two suspects identified as Quin Taylor (18) and Isaac Peevy (20), both residents of Moreno Valley, were apprehended. A third suspect, 20-year-old Deshawn Mency from Eastvale, later turned himself in at the Jurupa Valley Station.
All three suspects were brought to the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of robbery.
At present, the fourth suspect, Mahki Smith (19) from Moreno Valley, remains at large.
