Woman Traveller from the United States Murdered in Germany

An American man has been apprehended in connection with the death of a US tourist and an assault on another near Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Germany. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon near Marienbruecke, a bridge offering a renowned view of Neuschwanstein. The 30-year-old man, who met the two female tourists, aged 21 and 22, on a hiking path, allegedly enticed them onto a trail that leads to a viewpoint, according to the police statement.

According to the police, the man then physically assaulted the younger woman. When her companion attempted to intervene, he choked her and pushed her down a steep slope. The assailant then seemingly attempted to sexually assault the 21-year-old before pushing her down the slope as well. Both women were reached by a mountain rescue team. The 22-year-old was taken to a hospital and appeared to be responsive, while the 21-year-old was transported by helicopter to a different hospital with severe injuries and subsequently succumbed to them overnight.

The suspect left the scene but was promptly arrested nearby. The arrested individual, described as an American tourist, was identified as the alleged perpetrator by the police. Prosecutors stated that the victims were also US citizens. The 22-year-old victim remains hospitalized, as reported by prosecutors. The suspect is currently under custody, awaiting a potential indictment for murder, attempted murder, and a sexual offense. Police are actively reconstructing the events and are appealing to any witnesses to come forward.
