A man and woman were arrested for the possession of unregistered firearms, including an undisclosed non-serialized short-barrel AR-15 assault rifle. Following their arrest, Indio residents David Joel Bustos, 24, and Kaztynnee Zamorez, 20, were released from jail on Friday after posting bond of $10,000.
According to Sgt. Paul Heredia of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Bustos was also charged with being a gang member and a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
A search warrant was executed at a residence on Bradley Way in the Coachella Valley. The warrant was served by the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force, along with the California Highway Patrol K-9 Team and the sheriff’s department’s Aviation unit at 9 a.m. on Thursday, as confirmed by Heredia.
During the search, law enforcement officials allegedly discovered a non-serialized short-barrel AR-15 rifle and a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun equipped with a switch capable of converting it to full-automatic capacity.
Following their arrest, Bustos and Zamorez were booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio. However, they were released on Friday after posting $10,000 bail bonds, as indicated by inmate records.
