Recently unsealed court documents in the case of the 2017 murders of two girls in Delphi, Indiana, have shed new light on the investigation. According to prosecutors, Richard Allen, the suspect charged with the murders, has allegedly confessed multiple times to the killings of Abby Williams, 13, and Libby German, 14. The newly released documents reveal that during a phone call with his wife from jail in April 2023, Allen admitted to committing the slayings “several times.” He also made similar confessions during a call to his mother. However, Allen’s defense lawyers argue that these alleged confessions should not be considered reliable due to the physical and mental “duress” he has experienced while behind bars, as reported by Fox 59.
The recently disclosed court documents also provide details on how investigators believe the girls were killed: with a knife. Autopsies confirmed that their deaths were homicides and that they sustained wounds from a sharp object. CBS 4 reports that police had seized numerous items from Allen’s home approximately two weeks before his arrest, including a gun, ammunition, knives, boots, clothing, laptops, cellphones, and hard drives, among other things. The Indianapolis Star also reports that the previously sealed filings, consisting of hundreds of pages, have been made available online. These documents can be accessed here.
