Why Donald Trump Thinks Nikki Haley Belongs in Jail
Nikki Haley should be on her way to jail, according to Donald Trump. Under Trump’s theory, President Joe Biden is orchestrating multiple criminal investigations into Trump because he is afraid of facing his “leading opponent” in the next election. However, if Trump’s claims were true, the Department of Justice and state prosecutors in Georgia and New York should be investigating Haley, not Trump.
Recent polls have shown that former South Carolina Governor and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley presents a tougher challenge to Biden than Trump. Even Republican National Committee member Henry Barbour said that if the GOP nominates anyone other than Trump, the GOP nominee will win against Biden.
Why hasn’t Biden opened criminal investigations into Haley or Florida Governor Ron DeSantis? A longtime Democratic consultant explained that there is no reason to investigate either of them because they apparently haven’t broken the law.
As for Trump, he attempted a coup by inciting a mob of supporters to attack the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. He also took secret documents from the White House and faces indictments for his attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia and another indictment in New York state.
Many Republicans, both grassroots activists and elected members of Congress, claim that prosecutors have indicted Trump to prevent him from running for president. House Speaker Mike Johnson called the criminal cases against Trump politically motivated “lawfare”, while Republican conference chair Elise Stefanik sends fundraising emails to help Trump defeat the prosecutions.
In addition, Trump and his allies continue to focus on attacking DeSantis, while acknowledging that Haley poses a threat to Trump. However, Trump’s self-centered approach to politics means that even if Haley wins the GOP nomination, she would face interference from Trump, making it difficult for her to run against Biden.
Despite current head-to-head polling against Biden, Republican consultant Stuart Stevens believes that Trump would not act like a normal politician and endorse Haley. Instead, he suggested that Trump would do his best to ensure she does not win the presidency, even going as far as to sabotage her.
