Some of Elon Musk’s major business partners are reevaluating their association with his tech empire after a series of controversial incidents. Even Congress is reconsidering its partnership with his companies.

They argue that Musk’s companies receive billions of dollars in federal contracts, and expressed particular concern over a report that Musk restricted access to a satellite network critical to Ukraine’s fight against Russia.
However, it may be challenging for the government to disentangle itself from Musk’s sprawling tech empire, which includes companies such as SpaceX, Starlink, Tesla, Neuralink, and X. These businesses are dominant in their industries, and the government would face obstacles finding alternative private sector partners to replace them.
Despite Musk’s controversial behavior, some lawmakers acknowledge the importance of his companies’ capabilities. They stress the difficulty of finding comparable alternatives and express admiration for Musk’s accomplishments in various industries.
Musk has faced widespread condemnation for his recent controversies, including comments on X and his support for a debunked conspiracy theory. This has led to firms cutting advertising on X, and lawmakers expressing distrust in Musk and his companies. However, the federal government has strong ties to Musk’s enterprises, and Musk’s behavior, while objectionable, is protected by the First Amendment.
