Why Everyone Covered the Alabama Melee Story Despite its Lack of Significance, According to Greg Gutfeld

NEWWant to listen to Fox News articles? We’ve got you covered!

Greetings everyone, and happy Thursday. What’s happening in the world today? Well, not much, really. In fact, it seems like there’s absolutely nothing noteworthy going on. But fear not, because I have something interesting to share with you.

Song: There are so many distressing stories out there that evoke feelings of sadness. But then, something changes, and everything becomes less gloomy. Could it be the arrival of a new season? Summer news helps to unwind, even though it may seem silly and trivial.

Have you ever wondered how a local news story becomes a national sensation? Let’s take the city of Montgomery, Alabama, for example. A riverboat owned by the city attempted to dock in its designated spot along the waterfront, only to find a pontoon boat already moored there. The captain of the riverboat asked the pontoon owners to move, but they refused. When a deckhand from the riverboat tried to move the smaller boat, things took a disturbing turn. What you’re about to witness is quite unsettling, so if there are kids around, distract them by punching them hard in the face (just kidding!).

ALABAMA RIVERFRONT BRAWL: MONTGOMERY POLICE ANNOUNCE CHARGES IN MASSIVE FIGHT CAUGHT ON VIDEO

Wow, that’s absolutely disgusting. It’s appalling. And when something disgusts and appalls me, I need to see more.

Ouch, that must’ve hurt. More people joined in to defend their side, turning it into a full-blown brawl. It’s like a Friday night in Ireland, or what the rest of us might consider captivating television. This is how a local incident quickly gains national attention. Fights simply captivate us. We’d rather watch a fight in a foreign parliament than attend a local council meeting, especially if it’s accompanied by heavy metal music.

See what I mean? But why did a story about a fight on a riverfront attract so much coverage? Even cable news networks streamed the live police press conference, including us. Are we hoping that Aunt Helen in Boise might know one of the brawlers in Montgomery? Or are we simply filling the void of a restless and bored nation? There’s no logical reason to cover this story, and yet everyone did. So, who’s to blame for this brawl? I suppose I should have an opinion. If I don’t, then I’m not doing my job. Otherwise, I might as well be Bill Hemmer. And I don’t want him to be mad at me when I get home.

BRAWL AT MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA, RIVERFRONT DOCK CAUGHT ON VIDEO

I assume the other guys parked their boat where they weren’t supposed to, and all they had to do was move it. But they didn’t. And that’s how the fight started. However, because the participants were of different races, it made the situation even more newsworthy. Race became a prominent factor. If it had been a fight between white individuals or between black individuals, it probably would’ve attracted less attention. But here’s another crucial aspect of the story: the black man who was attacked claimed it had nothing to do with race, despite what his colleagues say. The police even consulted the FBI to determine if it was a hate crime, but they concluded it wasn’t. The victim himself clearly stated that he didn’t believe it was racially motivated. So if the person who was assaulted doesn’t view it as a race fight, why should anyone else?

The truth is, in situations like this, there can be good and bad individuals on both sides, and it has nothing to do with race. However, the media has conditioned us to prioritize the group identity over the actual individuals involved. Anyway, let’s be honest, the video of the fight is more captivating than 98% of the content on Netflix. By the way, have you even noticed the writer’s strike? That’s because the void left by the lack of entertainment has been filled by news. News and entertainment have become indistinguishable. It’s like when my wife asks if I’ve had dinner, and I reply that I already ate, but it was actually three margaritas. Drinks count as dinner, and news counts as entertainment. And the best part is, the people who engage in fights on planes, trains, and loading docks are always there for us when we need something to watch. Perhaps we should take a moment of silent appreciation for them.

Here’s the amazing thing about life these days: we’ve democratized entertainment. One day, you could be minding your own business, watching videos on your phone, and the next day, you could be the one being watched in a video on that phone. It could happen to any of us. The most local and seemingly insignificant stories can go viral and be treated as news, when in reality, they’re just a distraction for a restless and anxious audience. They’re something to consume until we’ve exhausted their entertainment value. These stories have no lasting impact, unless you happen to be the one in the video. And that’s something worth remembering.

At any moment, you could become the subject of news. No one is truly safe, especially during the summer when the people behind the scenes take a break, leaving the rest of us in charge. And it’s safe to say that we’re doing a pretty good job.
