July 24 (UPI) — It’s a record-breaking hot summer, and humans are not the only ones retreating to the coolness of air conditioning. Here are five instances where snakes sought shelter indoors to escape the heat.

A Snake in the Kitchen

San Antonio Animal Care Services responded to a late-night call from a family who discovered a snake in their kitchen. An ACS officer found a ball python hiding behind the dishwasher and safely retrieved the “timid but friendly” snake named Zolta. The snake was later transferred to a private rescue.

A Snake in the Bathroom

In Australia, a man sitting on his toilet got the surprise of his life when he spotted a nearly 10-foot python on top of his shower. He immediately sought the assistance of Anthony Hudson Snake Catching, who calmly removed the snake without being bitten. The snake was then released into the wild.

A Snake at a Resort

A venomous snake made an unwanted appearance at an Australian resort. The snake, a yellow-faced whip snake, had been accidentally vacuumed up by a vacationer. Snake catcher Drew Godfrey from Hervey Bay Snake Catchers successfully relocated the snake from the vacuum cleaner and released it back into the wild.

A Snake on a Train

A snake was spotted on a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority train in Washington D.C. The train was taken out of service, and authorities confirmed that the snake had left on its own. No farecard was found, leading to speculation that the snake had snuck onboard without paying.

A Snake in a Drawer

A snake was found relaxing in a desk drawer in an Australian bar. Snake catcher Stuart McKenzie was called in to safely remove the carpet python, which had been peacefully napping throughout the day. The snake was released into a nearby wilderness area.
