The explosion resulted in multiple injuries, destroyed two neighboring houses, and caused severe damage to around twelve other residences, according to authorities.
As per a news release from the Allegheny County government, two nearby homes were engulfed in flames and completely demolished during the Saturday morning explosion in Plum, Pa. Additionally, several houses in the vicinity had their windows blown out.
“This is an incredibly mournful day,” expressed Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald during a news conference on Saturday. He further stated that the explosion was an unimaginable loss that words cannot adequately convey.
Plum Borough Police Chief Lanny Conley confirmed to reporters that four adults and one child lost their lives as a result of the explosion. Although county officials have not publicly identified the victims or their ages, local media reported that Casey Clontz, 38, and his 12-year-old son, Keegan, were among those who tragically perished. They were visiting the house at the time of the incident, as stated by their family and friends.
“Keegan and Casey will be deeply missed and forever loved by their family, friends, and the entire community,” expressed the family in a statement to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
