Why did Saucedo found the club back in 2007? It started with his grandson who was passionate about boxing but faced obstacles due to the high cost of training at various gyms. This led Saucedo to create an affordable option for passionate boxers like his grandson. Even his own sons, Jose Jr. and Ignacio, encountered this challenge during their youth.
Not only has the Westside Boxing Club served youth and amateur boxers, but it has also attracted renowned world champions such as Sugar Shane Mosley, Canelo Alvarez, and Victor Ortiz. Even actor Robert De Niro trained at this exceptional club in preparation for his role in the 2013 comedy film, “Grudge Match.”
Saucedo’s journey began on September 5, 1955, in Naica, Chihuahua, Mexico. From there, he worked as a miner in his hometown. In the early 1990s, Saucedo and his wife Leticia immigrated to the United States, initially finding employment in a sewing factory. With hard work and perseverance, they managed to save enough money to bring their sons to Los Angeles, where they would eventually make a lasting impact.
