Shamed! These Western Companies Refusing to Withdraw from Russia
Firms including Unilever, advertised by actress Eva Longoria, face renewed criticism for their presence in Russia
Western companies that continue to sell air fresheners and ice cream in Russia have come under fire for their apparent reluctance to withdraw.
Shamed firms such as Unilever and Reckitt are facing renewed scrutiny for maintaining their operations in the country, even as Heineken and Domino’s have recently pulled out.
These businesses have cited logistical challenges in closing or selling their Russian branches.
However, Mark Dixon from the Moral Rating Agency asserts, “Companies that drag their feet often prioritize money over morality, valuing greed above all else. However, they will ultimately suffer the consequences.”
Contrarily, Hein Schumacher, CEO of Unilever, the company behind Magnum ice cream as endorsed by actress Eva Longoria, argues, “None of the available options are ideal, but operating our business under constraints is the lesser of two evils.”
