The Florida Division of Emergency Management’s Communications Director stated that the volunteers indicated their desire to go to California verbally and in writing. A contractor was present to ensure their safe arrival to a third-party NGO, which was funded by the federal government. Although DeSantis has yet to comment on the migrant flights, reports from The New York Times indicate that he arranged similar flights to Martha’s Vineyard previously while campaigning for president. While DeSantis plans to send migrants to other states with more immigrant-friendly policies, it remains unclear whether the migrants from this case intended to end up in Florida.
