June 29 (UPI) — Mail delivery in a Kansas neighborhood was unexpectedly suspended for almost two months due to the alleged presence of a “vicious dog,” although some residents doubt its existence.

According to reports, on April 29, residents of the 3000 block of South 46th Terrace in Kansas City received a letter from the local post office stating that a “vicious dog” posed hazardous conditions for delivery workers, resulting in the halt of mail delivery in the area.

Lisa White, one of the residents, expressed her confusion and denied the presence of any such dog in the neighborhood. Despite regularly walking her large dog every morning, she has never encountered any dangerous canines.

Initially, residents were informed that they would receive community cluster mailboxes at the end of their block. However, they experienced significant delays in the arrival of these new mailboxes.

Mark Inglett, the media relations spokesman at the U.S. Postal Service, recently announced that mail delivery services would resume as the issue regarding the dog had been resolved. Unfortunately, he did not provide specific details regarding the resolution.

In a recent report, the U.S. Postal Service disclosed that 5,300 employees were attacked by dogs while on mail delivery duty in 2022. Although Kansas City, Kan., did not make it to the top 25 of the list, Kansas City, Mo., ranked eighth in terms of dog attacks on mail carriers.
