Warren Buffett’s wife expresses dissatisfaction over the price of a $4 coffee at Sun Valley

During Allen & Co’s annual “summer camp for billionaires,” Astrid Buffett, the wife of renowned investor Warren Buffett, was overheard expressing her dissatisfaction with having to pay $4 for a cup of coffee. Despite her husband’s immense wealth, Warren Buffett is known for being frugal, residing in the same house he bought in 1958 for $31,500 and engaging in practices such as using coupons and buying discounted cars.

It was confirmed that the Austrian-themed pastry shop and coffeehouse at the luxurious Sun Valley resort in Idaho, called Konditorei, offers the cheapest caffeine fix at $4. Cold brew starts at $5.50, while specialty drinks like the “Fire Trail” can cost up to $6.

Astrid also mentioned that her husband, often referred to as the “Oracle of Omaha,” has been struggling with poor balance due to his age. As a result, he has been using a golf cart with an Allen & Co. logo to navigate the vast grounds of Sun Valley during the conference.

Warren Buffett and Astrid Menks got married in 2006, when he was 76 and she was 60. They started dating years earlier while Buffett was still married to his first wife, Susan Thompson, who gave her consent to their relationship. Astrid has been a regular attendee of the conference alongside her husband.

Meanwhile, at Sun Valley, there was significant buzz surrounding Disney’s announcement that Bob Iger would remain as CEO until 2026. However, the entertainment industry faced potential disruptions as the key actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, and major TV and film companies reached a stalemate in negotiations, leading to the possibility of a strike. This would join the ongoing strike by Hollywood screenwriters, causing widespread shutdowns in the industry.

Paramount CEO Bob Bakish and Paramount Chairman Shari Redstone declined to comment on the labor dispute when approached by reporters. Bob Iger expressed his belief that the demands of actors and screenwriters were unrealistic given the challenges already facing the entertainment industry.

During an interview, Iger hinted at the possibility of selling Disney-owned assets and addressed his feud with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. He emphasized Disney’s desire to avoid being dragged into any culture wars.

Other notable figures spotted at the event included Bill McDermitt, the CEO of ServiceNow, who gave a thumbs-up to media members, and Alex Karp, the CEO of Palantir Technologies, who exchanged greetings with reporters.
