Volvo introduces a small electric SUV to balance the affordability gap.

Volvo’s new EX30 is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) that is aimed mostly at urban buyers who constitute a rapidly expanding sector of the market. It is also more modestly priced starting at just under €40,000, which is similar to the cost of a petrol or diesel vehicle. One notable feature of the EX30 is its special safety element that alerts you if you are about to open your door in front of a cyclist, scooter or runner. There are three powertrain options and two different battery types to choose from, with a single-charge range going from 344km to 480km. The LFP standard-range battery, Single Motor Extended Range variant with an NMC extended-range, and Twin Motor Performance AWD all-wheel drive version are all available, with the latter being Volvo’s fastest accelerating car to date. Limited market research shows the total cost of ownership to be currently lower than any other fully electric Volvo. Volvo focuses on developing a transparent online pricing process without hidden fees, making it simple to buy one outright or lease one.
