During its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple introduced Vision Pro, its virtual reality (VR) headset, on Monday.
Apple CEO Tim Cook described the headset as a “new type of computer” that enhances reality by “seamlessly blending” the physical world with the digital world.
“Vision Pro is the first Apple product that you look through rather than at. It is familiar, yet new,” he stated.
The product is controlled by the user’s eyes, hands, and voice, according to Cook.
Vision Pro is expected to be available for purchase early in 2024, with prices beginning at $3,499.
Meta and its Quest headsets appear to be the most direct competitor to Vision Pro for Apple.
Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has increased its focus on virtual reality and the so-called metaverse since changing its name in October 2021.
Meta announced last week that its newest headset model, Quest 3, will be released later in the year.
