Aug. 21 (UPI) — An extraordinary 84-year-old woman from Colorado is nearing her 600th skydiving adventure, with an ambitious goal of completing 1,000 dives in her lifetime.

Kim Knor, a resident of Denver, embarked on her first skydiving experience at the age of 20 in 1959. She later became a member of the inaugural U.S. Women’s Parachute Team in 1962.

Interestingly, Knor credits her love for skydiving for leading her to her husband. “When I got a job in Washington, the guy that defected my parachute in 1962 was from Yugoslavia, and a friend of ours in Washington got us back together, and we got married in three months,” Knor shared with CBS News.

After her husband’s serious accident, Knor took a 37-year hiatus from skydiving. However, following his death in 2003, she revived her long-standing passion.

Choosing between passive activities like watching TV or using a computer and the thrill of skydiving and traveling across the country, Knor opts for the latter. “I have a choice of watching TV or sitting in front of a computer, or going out and jumping and traveling across the country,” she emphasized to the Longmont Times-Call.

Recognizing her significant contributions to the sport, Knor was inducted into the International Skydiving Museum and Hall of Fame in 2013.

During a recent skydiving escapade, Knor’s grandson, John Norsen, joined her for his first dive. “I’m just following tradition of everyone in our family jumping with her for the first time,” Norsen explained.

Having already surpassed 580 skydiving experiences, Knor shows no signs of slowing down. Her ultimate goal is to achieve a remarkable total of 1,000 dives. Additionally, she aspires to inspire more women to explore the world of skydiving. “I keep encouraging them to at least go out and try it; and if it’s your thing, you might end up getting a job at a drop zone and be around these people all the time,” Knor shared. “At most drop zones, everybody’s on a high because they’re so happy to go up and jump.”
