In an interview with The Atlantic, Rapinoe expressed her disappointment with the commentary, referring to it as “really disappointing.”
Rapinoe went on to say, “It seems like those on the right, who use hateful language and stereotypes, have been eagerly awaiting this team’s downfall since at least 2016 or 2019.”
The outspoken soccer star continued, “But even when we excel, we are accused of arrogance.”
Trump mocked Rapinoe following the USWNT’s World Cup elimination, posting on his platform Truth Social: “The ‘shocking and totally unexpected’ loss by the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team to Sweden is a perfect example of what is supposedly happening under Crooked Joe Biden to our once great Nation.”
“Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!! MAGA,” added the former president.
Regarding Trump’s remarks, Rapinoe responded to The Atlantic, stating, “What he’s saying is false.”
“It’s a collection of buzzwords and inflammatory phrases that hold no truth and do not align with reality,” she explained.
Rapinoe criticized the onslaught of criticism she received for missing a penalty kick, labeling it as “particularly false, disingenuous, absurd, and outrageous.”
“Are you going to bash me for giving my all and trying my best?” she questioned.
