Google
recently updated Google Flights with additional information to help you save money by booking your trip during specific time windows.
For instance, suppose you are planning a winter family vacation to Florida and need to book your flights. Google will inform you if the current prices are higher or lower than the average, as well as the optimal time to secure the best deal.
To test this feature, I used a sample trip from Miami to Dec. 5 to Dec. 19. Google indicated that the prices were lower than usual, with a round trip on Frontier Airlines costing approximately $58. This suggests that booking now is worthwhile.
In another example, I attempted to book a trip to Cancun from March 6 to March 13. Google mentioned that the price, around $282, was typical but recommended waiting to book the flight between Nov. 11 and Feb. 9 as prices are likely to decrease during this period.
“The lowest prices for similar trips to Cancun are usually found about 1-4 months between takeoff,” Google’s Flights page informed me. “Prices during this time are around $40 cheaper on average.”
How to find the cheapest time to fly with Google Flights
- You can try it for yourself by visiting https://flights.google.com on your phone.
- Enter your desired destination and departure dates, then tap “Done.”
- Google will display whether the prices are typical or not at the top, before the list of departing flights. Tap the down arrow to access more information, such as the optimal time to book.
