US prosecutor Jack Smith’s home sold amid indictments of Trump

United States Special Counsel, Jack Smith, has recently sold his Nashville, Tennessee home amidst the unprecedented indictments against former President Donald Trump. Smith and his wife, documentary filmmaker Katy Chevigny, listed their modest three-bedroom, three-bathroom property for $989,000 right after Trump’s first indictment on June 8. The residence, which spans 2,500 square feet, closed just a month later in July for $975,000. It seems that Smith made a handsome profit from the sale, considering he bought the home for $569,000 in 2016 when he was hired as an assistant US attorney in the Middle District of Tennessee.

Interestingly, Smith briefly put the home up for rent at the end of 2018 for $3,100 per month when he resigned from his role to serve as the chief prosecutor for the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, Netherlands. During this time, he investigated potential war crimes in the Kosovo War. In November 2022, upon his return, Smith was hired by President Joe Biden’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland, as a special counsel to oversee any investigations into Trump.

The home, built in 1930, boasts attractive features such as hardwood flooring, granite countertops, and exposed brick. The master suite even includes a rooftop deck. It is worth noting that Smith, who has been at the center of Trump’s federal indictments, lived in this property when he first started working as an assistant US attorney in Nashville.

Smith’s decision to sell his home coincided with his indictment of Donald Trump. The former president, who is currently leading the 2024 GOP presidential primary field, pleaded not guilty to the 37 counts filed by Smith, which are related to his alleged improper retention of classified records from his time in office. These charges are being handled in Florida. Smith, on the other hand, recently filed another indictment against Trump, accusing him of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of, and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, as well as conspiracy against rights. Trump, aged 77, appeared in court on Thursday for the arraignment in Washington, D.C., where he also pleaded not guilty.
