President Xi Jinping at a summit of Pacific Rim nations in the San Francisco Bay area, according to an announcement from the White House on Friday.
The meeting will take place next Wednesday and will cover various issues in the U.S.-PRC bilateral relationship, highlighting the importance of maintaining open lines of communication. The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, stated that the leaders will also discuss regional and global issues.
This summit is scheduled about a year after, the two leaders last met in person, during the G20 summit of leading wealthy and developing nations in Bali, Indonesia.”
Following their prior meeting,
Xi and Biden aim to discuss how to manage competition and work together on transnational challenges. Both nations have launched working-level consultations with the PRC in various areas, such as arms control and maritime issues.
Amidst periods of rising tension, the two leaders are expected to address regional and global crises, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas conflict.
While the exact location of the summit has not been disclosed due to operational security reasons, it’s known that President Xi Jinping and President Joe Biden are expected to partake in a fruitful and strategic meeting.
