The protection racket aimed at insulating the Bidens from scrutiny has failed. Ultimately, the timing is crucial. The primaries begin in January, giving Biden only a few months to make a decision and allow alternatives to emerge if he withdraws from the race.
Of course, none of these scenarios are guaranteed. Republicans could inadvertently harm their own cause by provoking a long-lasting government shutdown, which may generate sympathy for the president and provide the media with a new distraction to demonize the GOP.
