Unveiling the Majestic Arrival of Texas Migrants: Bus No. 15 Reaches Vibrant Los Angeles

Another bus carrying migrants from Texas arrived in downtown Los Angeles on Friday, marking the 15th arrival since June.

“A bus carrying migrants from Texas arrived at Union Station today at approximately 9:35 a.m,” stated Zach Seidl, Deputy Mayor of Communications for Mayor Karen Bass.

This arrival is part of a well-coordinated plan between the city, county, various nonprofit organizations, faith partners, and city departments, to address the influx of migrants. Upon learning of the bus’s arrival, our prepared plan was activated,” Seidl explained.

The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) confirmed the arrival of a bus carrying 45 asylum seekers from Texas on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The bus included 13 families, totaling 23 children from Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela.

CHIRLA is part of the L.A. Welcomes Collective, a network of nonprofit organizations, faith groups, and city and county services that collaborate to support migrant arrivals.

In response to the arrival, CHIRLA stated, “There is an abundance of compassion in Los Angeles, the largest and most diverse state in the U.S. We will use our limited resources to support those in need, which in turn strengthens our communities and ensures their safety and vitality.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been arranging these trips as part of Operation Lone Star, citing overwhelming immigration from the Mexican border as the reason. This operation is a collaboration between the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Military Department along the southern border of Texas and Mexico.

“Texas is securing the border in the absence of President Biden,” Abbott added.

“The small border towns of Texas continue to face overwhelming challenges due to the thousands of people illegally crossing from Mexico, resulting from President Biden’s failure to secure the border,” Abbott stated when the first bus arrived in Los Angeles in June.

“Migrants are drawn to Los Angeles, especially now that it has declared itself a sanctuary city. Our border communities are at the forefront of President Biden’s border crisis, and Texas will continue providing much-needed relief until he takes action to secure the border,” he emphasized.

Mayor Karen Bass has expressed frustration over the lack of information sharing from Abbott’s office regarding the shipments. She told KNX that if Abbott’s concerns were genuine, Texas officials would notify and coordinate with Los Angeles.

She said, “We only find out about the buses when they’re already on their way. We have no knowledge of who will be on board, the number of people, or their condition upon arrival. Sometimes, they haven’t eaten or had enough water.”

The Los Angeles City Council approved a motion on June 9th to formally establish the city as a sanctuary city.

Last month, the council also authorized an investigation by the City Attorney’s Office to determine if any crimes were committed during or before June 14th, when Abbott sent the first shipment of 42 migrants to Los Angeles.
