Warzone expert Metaphor assures fans that sniper rifles will once again be effective in Modern Warfare 3, thanks to the introduction of new weapon profiles.
Infinity Ward has confirmed that MW2 weapon progression, operator skins, and weapon blueprints will carry over to Modern Warfare 3 through the Carry Forward program. This means players will retain their leveled-up weapons and attachments.
Prominent Warzone content creator WhosImmortal suggests that MW2 weapons might not be as effective in MW3, as the developers may want players to focus more on the new weapons.

However, fellow streamer Metaphor counters this claim and presents arguments for why MW2 guns will still hold their own in MW3.
Metaphor explains why MW2 weapons will be viable in MW3
Based on his experience playing Warzone at COD Next, Metaphor confirms that sniper rifles will once again have the ability to eliminate enemies with a single shot in Modern Warfare 3. However, there will likely be a range limitation for these one-shot kills, similar to Caldera.
In WZ2, only the Victus XMR, FJX Imperium, and MCPR-300 sniper rifles could eliminate enemies with a single shot using High-Velocity ammunition. Other snipers fell out of favor among Warzone players due to their inability to secure one-shot kills.

Metaphor believes that there is a “really good chance” that MW2 snipers like the SP-X 80 and LA-B 330 will be adjusted to become one-shot kill weapons in MW3’s iteration of Warzone.
To support his argument, Metaphor mentions JGOD, who claims that Sledgehammer informed him directly about a new weapon profile in MW3 that can be applied to MW2 guns, altering them to match the MW3 profiles.
While the specifics are unclear, Metaphor hopes that this adjustment will make weapons like the SPX faster and more powerful.

During the MW3 beta, MW2 weapons were not available, so it remains to be seen how the meta will develop once Modern Warfare 3’s Warzone expansion is released later this year.
