The mother of Natalee Holloway made a shocking announcement to reporters on Wednesday, stating, “As far as I’m concerned, it’s over. Joran van der Sloot is no longer a suspect in my daughter’s murder; he is a killer.” This revelation follows van der Sloot’s confession to beating 18-year-old Natalee Holloway to death on an Aruba beach in 2005 and disposing of her body in the sea after she rejected his advances. Van der Sloot made his confession as part of his guilty plea in an extortion and wire fraud case. The plea deal required him to share all the information he knew about Holloway’s disappearance while her parents listened to his conversation with law enforcement in real time, according to the AP.
Van der Sloot also had to undergo a polygraph test, which he passed, confirming the validity of his statements. Beth Holloway expressed her confidence in his newfound honesty and told reporters, “I am absolutely confident that he finally told us the truth.” Court documents revealed a partial transcript of van der Sloot’s confession. He explained, “She asked to go back to her hotel, but I was hoping to be dropped off further away so we could walk back together to her hotel and potentially be intimate.” After being dropped off by their friends, they laid down in the sand and began kissing each other.
However, when Natalee started resisting his advances, van der Sloot did not back off. In response, she kneed him in the crotch. Enraged, he kicked her forcefully in the face while she was on the ground. She became unconscious and possibly dead at that point. Van der Sloot then picked up a nearby cinderblock and used it to totally crush her head, resulting in her face completely collapsing. Despite the darkness, he could see the severe damage he had caused.”

Van der Sloot proceeded to drag her body into knee-deep water and pushed her out to sea. “After that, I walked home,” he confessed. However, even with this admission, he cannot be tried for Natalee’s murder since the statute of limitations for homicide in Aruba is 12 years. Beth Holloway stated, “Although he can’t be held accountable here, I am satisfied knowing that he acted alone and disposed of my daughter’s body alone. I have the closure I need. Her case is finally solved.” Additional details about the terms of his plea deal can be found here.
