Unsuccessful Attempt: Dissident PC Members Fall Short in Efforts to Oust Blaine Higgs

Dissident members of New Brunswick’s Progressive Conservative party have been unsuccessful in triggering a leadership review for Blaine Higgs.

According to Andrea Johnson, the party’s executive director, the members did not meet the criteria required to initiate a vote on whether the premier should step down as the leader of the New Brunswick Tories.

Party rules stipulate that at least 50 members of the party, including 26 riding presidents, must request a review.

The deadline to collect the signatures was extended from August 19 to August 26, and it remains unclear how many members participated in the movement to oust Higgs.

Internal divisions within the party became apparent after the Higgs government revised the province’s policy on sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.

Higgs’s office has not responded to a request for comment as of today.
