Unraveling the Chaos: NYC Schools’ Migrant Issues Prompt Thought-Provoking Letters to the Editor

The Issue: The city school system’s failure to prepare for an influx of 21,000 illegal-migrant students.

As a native New Yorker, I respectfully offer some thoughts on the Department of Education’s letter providing guidance on Project Open Arms, (“Kick in the ed,” Sept. 7).

Firstly, it’s important to acknowledge that this is no longer a mere “crisis,” but rather the new normal in New York City. It’s time to accept this reality.

If parents in the city believe that COVID posed a threat to their children’s education, they are about to witness the true extent of the problem.

New York City and the United States should welcome those who come here legally while taking a firm stance against illegal migrant invaders who are causing harm to New York City and the nation as a whole.

I would have sympathy for the situation in New York if the mayor hadn’t been publicly endorsing the acceptance of all illegal immigrants.

It’s astonishing that he continues to believe that President Biden will provide billions of dollars to address the issue, especially when there’s a high probability that these funds will be misused and won’t solve the problem at hand.

It was evident that this crisis within the schools was impending, but as usual, he relied on the false hope of Biden coming to the rescue, leaving the teachers and administrators feeling abandoned.

The failed progressive policies should prompt voters to reconsider their priorities in the upcoming election.

With approximately 21,000 migrant children overwhelming the city’s school system, one would expect the “leaders” of New York City and state to make every effort to increase capacity to handle the influx caused by their sanctuary policies.

The immediate approval of charter schools, which have been prevented from opening under New York law, would provide some relief, even if it takes time to fully implement.

This would offer better opportunities to more of the city’s current schoolchildren, freeing up space in regular public schools for migrant students.

However, this would have required Mayor Adams, Governor Hochul, and the rest of the self-serving leadership in New York to exhibit forward-thinking, which seems to be lacking in their approach.

As schools reopen and the influx of immigrant children continues, a valid concern arises: Have they been vaccinated?

COVID cases are on the rise again, and teachers are already overwhelmed.

The Issue: A 29-year-old migrant who has been arrested six times since he arrived two months ago.

There has never been a more opportune time to be a criminal in New York (“He’s a 1-man migrant ‘crisis,'” Sept. 3).

Illegal immigrant Daniel Hernandez Martinez from Venezuela has been arrested six times in two months on 14 charges, including random attacks on three strangers and two police officers, yet he has not been deported.

A message to the judges: When someone repeatedly commits crimes, they should not be released on their own recognizance because they lack integrity.

It’s unbelievable and insulting to every New Yorker.

There was a time not too long ago when Martinez, a “refugee” from Venezuela, would not have been permitted to enter the country, let alone our largest city, where he could freely engage in a six-arrest crime spree while receiving accommodations, medical care, and sustenance from taxpayers.

It’s no wonder that the city is losing residents and businesses.
