As stated by In the Sky, observers in New York City will witness the rise of the Hunter’s Full Moon around 5:19 p.m. local time, with the sun setting at 5:53 p.m. Perfect timing for little ghosts and goblins to enjoy the glow of the full moon until it sets at 08:14 EDT the following day. This Hunter’s Moon holds a special surprise—a partial lunar eclipse that gives the moon an eerie appearance of having a bite taken out of it.

The name “Hunter’s Moon” for October’s full moon originated in the early 1700s. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, it refers to the hunting season for deer, turkey, pheasants, and other game animals in mid to late autumn, when they have been feasting on abundant food during the summer.
