As September comes to a close, the MLB Postseason takes center stage, showcasing the best of the best in baseball as they strive for immortality and a place in the record books.
On September 24th, we witnessed several remarkable moments, including Babe Ruth reaching new heights in his career.
Ruth ended his final season with the Boston Red Sox in 1919 on a high note. He led the league in runs scored (103), RBI (113), on-base percentage (.456), and slugging percentage (1.114). This marked his last season with the Red Sox before being sold to the New York Yankees.
In 1919, Ruth set the home run record with 29 homers in a single season. However, he surpassed his own record in 1920 by hitting an astounding 54 home runs. Notably, he became the first player in MLB history to achieve at least 50 home runs in a season, accomplishing this feat during a doubleheader against the Washington Nationals on September 24th.

“MIRACLE” METS SECURE NL PENNANT
The New York Mets had a breakthrough season and clinched their first winning record. Led by Tom Seaver, they secured the National League pennant against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Gary Gentry pitched a complete game shutout, allowing zero runs in a dominant 9-0 victory. He recorded five strikeouts. Meanwhile, Donn Clendenon hit two home runs and Ed Charles added another to contribute to the win.
The Mets went on to capture their first-ever World Series title and finished the season with an impressive record of 100 wins.
