Manchester City’s Erling Haaland showcased his talent at Old Trafford by scoring two goals and leading his team to a commanding 3-0 victory over Manchester United in a heated Premier League derby on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning squad currently sits at third place in the standings with 24 points after 10 games, narrowly trailing the leaders Tottenham Hotspur by two points. On the other hand, United, whose loss was their first in four games across all competitions, currently holds the eighth position with 15 points.

This defeat further adds to United’s recent struggles against their local rivals, having lost six of their last eight encounters, including a 2-1 loss in the FA Cup final against City during their treble-winning campaign last season, mirroring United’s achievements in 1999.
“It’s amazing. It’s a fantastic win, and the game itself was incredible. The team’s performance was outstanding,” expressed Haaland.
Midfielder Bernardo Silva also hailed the victory, stating, “To win 3-0 away with this crowd, I think it’s surely one of our best performances.”
Haaland, who has now scored 11 goals in the league this season, matching United’s total goal tally, opened the scoring in the 26th minute from the penalty spot. This came after VAR confirmed that Rasmus Højlund had fouled Rodri during a free kick.
With great composure, Haaland calmly dispatched the penalty into the bottom-right corner, securing City’s first-ever penalty in 27 Premier League matches at Old Trafford.
In the second half, City continued their dominance over a stunned United side. Haaland once again found the back of the net shortly after halftime when Bernardo Silva made a well-timed overlapping run and delivered a precise pass to the back post, where Haaland rose above the defense to head home.
In the 80th minute, Phil Foden added City’s third goal from close range after goalkeeper André Onana parried away a shot from Rodri, which fell perfectly to Haaland’s feet for an easy cross to Foden. The goal frustrated many United fans, leading some to leave the stadium early.
Højlund had a golden opportunity to make amends for his costly foul with a breakaway in the first half, but the 20-year-old was dispossessed. United midfielder Scott McTominay’s late first-half shot was then tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Ederson.
Despite United’s chances, City also had their fair share of near misses, including a header from Haaland that Onana saved just before halftime.
Last season, City defeated Erik ten Hag’s United side 6-3 at home but suffered a 2-1 loss at Old Trafford.
