Unexpected Travel Hurdle for Justin Trudeau: Plane Breakdown in India

  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s plane broke down as he was set to fly out of New Delhi.
  • Trudeau was attending the G20 summit, and was due to return home on Sunday.
  • But a mechanical issue has forced him to stay in India for at least one extra night, officials said.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau found himself stranded in New Delhi after his plane experienced a technical issue at the airport.

Trudeau and his delegation arrived in India on Friday to participate in the G20 summit. They were scheduled to return home on Sunday.

However, the delegation was informed that their plane was facing technical difficulties, as reported by Canadian outlet CTV News, citing Canadian officials.

“Upon our departure for the airport, we were made aware by the Canadian Armed Forces that CFC001 was experiencing technical issues,” stated Trudeau’s office, according to CTV.

“These issues cannot be resolved overnight, so our delegation will be staying in India until alternative arrangements are made,” the statement added, as reported by CTV.

According to the outlet, Trudeau flew to India on an Airbus aircraft, which reportedly encountered technical issues in 2016 and 2019 as well.

Trudeau’s presence at the G20 summit coincided with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticism of Sikh protests permitted in Canada.

During the summit, Modi’s office released a statement condemning the protests, stating that they were “encouraging secessionism and inciting violence against Indian diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and posing a threat to the Indian community in Canada.”

Trudeau’s office has not yet responded to a request for comment outside of regular business hours.
