Unbiased Review: Is the New Atari 2600+ Really Worth the ‘Plus’?

< h1> Atari 2600+ Review: A Nostalgic Curio with Mixed Results< /h1>
< p> The Atari 2600+ is a recent release aimed at fixing the problem of old gaming consoles not working well with modern HDTVs. Priced at $130, this console promises to make classic Atari cartridges look better on HD screens, but don’t expect modern quality-of-life features commonly found in other retro console revamps. < /p>
< p> Let’s start with the physical hardware itself, which earns points for authenticity. Aesthetically, the 2600+ looks exactly like an Atari 2600 unit from yesteryear. It features the classic fake wood grain and springy front switches, evoking nostalgia among gamers of a certain age. < /p>
< p> The only modernization in the unit itself is found in the back panel, with the Atari logo now lighting up when the system powers on. The power input has been switched to USB-C and the output has been switched from an embedded RCA cable to an HDMI port. < /p>
< p> However, the 1.5m cable on the included joystick won’t allow much mobility, especially when considering that the controller parts are located inconveniently on the back panel of the unit. Also, the base system doesn’t come with a second controller, even though many Atari games are designed for two players. < /p>
< p> Speaking of the joystick, the newly included “CX40+” model doesn’t offer much differentiation from the classic CX40 joystick. It features the same stiff, eight-direction, one-button design that Atari made famous decades ago. < /p>
< p> Lastly, while a Genesis controller will fit in the slot and work on original hardware, it won’t work on the Atari 2600+. < /p>
< p> In conclusion, the Atari 2600+ is a nostalgic curio that delivers on authenticity but falls short on modern features, mobility, and additional controller options. < /p>
