Ultimate Convenience: Hop on Dublin Express from Heuston Station to Airport – An Irish Rail Partnership

Dublin Express, in partnership with Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail, has introduced a new ticketing initiative for passengers traveling to Dublin Airport. This initiative allows travelers to book a single ticket for their entire journey on the Irish Rail website. Additionally, passengers now have the option to include a connecting bus journey with Dublin Express from Heuston Station to the airport directly on the website.

Since the launch of the ticketing initiative, the bus operator has reported a nearly four-fold increase in sales within just three months. In the first nine months of the year, Dublin Express, which is part of National Express, transported 143,000 passengers between the train station and Dublin Airport. With the introduction of the joint rail and bus ticket option, this number is expected to rise to around 180,000 by the end of the year.

The coach operator estimates that the service from Heuston Station has already eliminated 90,000 car journeys this year, assuming an average of two passengers per car. In the coming months, Dublin Express plans to extend this joint ticket service to Connolly Station, offering convenience to passengers traveling from locations like Sligo, Belfast, and Maynooth.

Jim Meade, CEO of Irish Rail, expressed excitement about the partnership with National Express, stating that it will provide more people with a sustainable and convenient transport option when traveling to Heuston and onward to Dublin Airport. John Boughton, managing director of National Express Ireland, added that their collaboration with Irish Rail is just one of the ways they aim to help people travel affordably and conveniently.

Dublin Express estimates that around 33% of airport travelers will opt for public transport this year, and this number is expected to grow in the future. In August 2021, Dublin Express was first introduced in Ireland and carried 1.2 million passengers between Dublin city center and Dublin Airport last year. The introduction of a Belfast route to Dublin Airport was launched in July.
