The British government has signed a partnership with Singapore to boost its economy and strengthen shared security, announced Downing Street on Friday. This treaty marks the UK’s first since leaving the European Union.
During the G20 Summit in India, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will meet with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to formally sign the partnership and work towards finalizing a bilateral investment treaty, as stated by Downing Street.
This partnership aims to provide confidence for Singaporean companies to invest in Britain and vice versa, while also generating employment opportunities.
The British government emphasized that the partnership will enhance security cooperation, science and technology innovation, and research and development. It will also address cyber threats through a collaboration between Singapore’s Digital and Intelligence Service and Britain.
“This new agreement with Singapore will advance our priorities and ensure that we shape the future of the global economy with our closest partners,” said Rishi Sunak.
The two leaders are currently in New Delhi to attend the G20 summit, marking Sunak’s first official visit to India since assuming office in October last year.
