Tyrese Gibson Files Lawsuit Against Home Depot, Accusing Racial Profiling

Actor and musician Tyrese Gibson, known for his role in the “Fast & Furious” franchise, has filed a civil rights lawsuit against Home Depot. Gibson, along with his construction workers Eric Mora and Manual Hernandez, allege racial profiling by employees at the West Hills store in February. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, also claims negligent hiring, supervision, and retention. Seeking over $1 million in compensatory damages, Gibson also seeks punitive damages.

The suit states that Gibson, “one of the most recognizable Black actors and musicians in the United States,” and his associates experienced discriminatory mistreatment and racial profiling while inside the Home Depot store. The lawsuit aims to hold the company accountable for their actions and stop the practice of racial profiling not only at Home Depot but also in all retail stores.

In February, Gibson and his workers visited the Victory Boulevard store. Worried about causing a distraction due to his fame, Gibson had his construction workers pay for the selected items with his credit card while he went to his car. However, Gibson returned to the store when the cashier refused to complete the transaction without seeing his identification. The suit alleges that the cashier and manager’s actions were racially motivated, as they provided no reasonable explanation for their behavior.

Gibson and his co-plaintiffs claim to have suffered shame, humiliation, and mental suffering as a result of this incident.
