Twin Sisters in Matching Outfits Spend a Week at Disney World

  • My twin sister and I frequently visit Disney World.
  • We decided to experiment by wearing matching outfits and observing people’s reactions.
  • To my surprise, guests stared at us more while cast members found us adorable.

Although my twin sister and I share a special bond and do most things together, one thing we rarely do is dress alike.

Our parents used to dress us alike during our childhood, and I remember attracting attention from strangers. However, dressing alike was not something I continued into adulthood.

But when we moved to Orlando, I became curious about people’s reactions to us wearing the same outfits, especially at Walt Disney World.

We decided to wear matching dresses for a week and observe how people looked at us, treated us, and spoke to us compared to when we dressed differently.

The characters had a different interaction starter

Usually, when we meet characters at Disney World, our interactions revolve around our colorful hair. But when we dressed alike, the focus shifted to our matching outfits. Many characters would comment on our outfits and ask if we were best friends. It added a new dimension to our character interactions, which was a lot of fun.

We received more stares from guests

As two 24-year-old girls with bright outfits and colorful hair, we are used to attracting some stares in the parks. However, the number of stares increased significantly when we dressed alike. It was noticeable how people would look at us for a few seconds and then draw the attention of their companions to stare as well.

Although I have grown a thick skin from being stared at, it can still make me uncomfortable, especially when the stares come from older guests, which happened frequently.

Cast members gave us extra compliments

Cast members at Disney World are usually kind and accommodating, but their treatment of us became even more exceptional when we dressed alike.

Many cast members went out of their way to praise our outfits and tell us how great we looked.

Considering the busy schedules and responsibilities of cast members, their recognition of our efforts meant a lot to me.

One interaction with a Space Mountain cast member stood out in particular. She enthusiastically complimented our outfits before the ride started, saying, “I love your outfits so much! Your dresses are so cute.” It was unexpected and made my experience on the ride even more enjoyable.

We were treated as younger and infantilized, especially by older guests

As a young adult, it can be uncomfortable when older people treat me like a child. Although there may be good intentions behind it, such as ensuring my well-being, the condescending tone in their comments becomes apparent when we dress alike.

People would make comments like “Do you need some help?” while looking at the Disney Transport bus sign and “Aren’t you two just the most adorable girls.” Although these comments may seem friendly, they sometimes come across as patronizing.
