Lawrence showcased his prowess by completing 20-of-29 passes for 204 yards and securing a touchdown. A remarkable moment came when Christian Kirk caught a 3-yard toss and sprinted 44 yards for the game-winning TD.
Facing doubts about his knee, the Jaguars’ QB demonstrated quick decision-making to evade the opposition’s rush. Remarkably, Lawrence had an average time to throw of 2.20 seconds, resulting in only three total pressures throughout the game. The second half was particularly impressive as the QB faced no pressure on any of his 11 dropbacks, according to Next Gen Stats.
When passing avenues closed, Lawrence surprised the Saints’ defense with his agility and mobility. Recognizing the knee injury, the Saints likely hadn’t prepared for a quarterback who could move with such finesse.
Coach Doug Pederson couldn’t help but shower praise on his exceptional QB’s resilience in the face of adversity.
“Once again, Trevor’s incredible personality shines through along with his selflessness,” Pederson effused. “I witnessed it last year when he sustained an injury during the Detroit game but still persevered through the rest of the season. This time around, it’s a different challenge. It’s a short week. If you had asked me on Monday, I would have confidently stated that Trevor wouldn’t play this football game. However, that’s not who Trevor is. I’m immensely proud of his performance; his ability to scramble and run was remarkable. Fortunately, the runs were straightforward without too many cuts. There were numerous gutsy performances, but his stands out as the top one.”
The Jaguars, riding high on a four-game winning streak, currently hold a 5-2 record. With 10 days of rest, Lawrence can now heal his knee before they confront the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8, followed by a well-deserved bye week in Week 9.
