A tragic incident occurred in Riverside as a young woman lost her life in a vehicle collision with a tree. The authorities suspect that alcohol played a role in the accident, making it all the more devastating.
Upon receiving the distress call, Riverside Police Department officers rushed to the scene at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and John Street. The crash involved a single vehicle that crashed directly into a tree on the side of the road. Officer Ryan J. Railsback provided these details.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver, a 23-year-old male, was heading in the wrong direction, unaware of his surroundings. He was traveling westbound on Victoria Avenue when approaching John Street. Sadly, he failed to notice the curve in the road, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The car ultimately collided with a palm tree located in the center median. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment, though his condition remains unknown.
The passenger, identified as Joanna Huizar, sadly did not survive the crash. Further information about her residence has not been disclosed.
This tragic incident marks the 17th auto crash-related fatality in Riverside this year, according to Officer Railsback. Anyone who has any information about the accident is urged to contact Detective Ryan McHugh at 951-826-8720 or via email at [email protected].
