Tragic Confirmed Loss: Shani Louk, 22-Year-Old Woman Abducted by Hamas at Music Festival, Sadly Declared Deceased by Israel

Berlin — Over three weeks have passed since the brutal terror attack by Hamas in southern Israel. Finally, on Sunday, the family of a young German-Israeli woman received confirmation from the Israeli government that she had been killed. Shani Louk was one of the victims of the massacre carried out by Hamas gunmen at a music festival near the border with the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip on October 7.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed her death and expressed their condolences on social media. They wrote, “Our hearts are broken. Shani, who was kidnapped from a music festival and suffered unimaginable horrors at the hands of Hamas terrorists, will always be remembered. May her memory be a blessing.”

Louk, who was 22 years old, had been listed as missing since the Hamas attack. Her mother, Ricarda Louk, received the devastating news from Israeli authorities. Ricarda Louk told Germany’s DPA news agency that a fragment of skull matching Shani’s DNA was found, suggesting she was likely killed by a gunshot wound to the head. Ricarda Louk expressed some relief that her daughter did not suffer.

The German Foreign Office confirmed the death of another German citizen but did not provide specific details about the circumstances or how the family was informed.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also condemned the brutal murder of Shani Louk and emphasized the barbarity behind the Hamas attack. He called for Hamas to be held accountable and recognized Israel’s right to defend itself. The German government has acknowledged that fewer than 10 German nationals were killed in the Hamas attack. Meanwhile, Israel has accused Hamas of killing over 1,400 people in their violent rampage and ongoing rocket launches.

Louk was among the hundreds of people attending the Supernova trance music festival near Re’im, southern Israel, when it was attacked by Hamas militants. Israeli officials have reported that at least 260 people were killed and many more were abducted from the festival.

The German Foreign Office states that a total of eight German citizens are still missing in Israel.
