Jordan Clarkson and the rest of Gilas Pilipinas have two more games to fully adjust to their respective playing styles for the World Cup. According to Rajko Toroman, who started the program over a decade ago, the team has grown significantly since then. Toroman described the current team as the strongest in the history of Philippine basketball, noting their size and international exposure.
This batch of Gilas Pilipinas is better than the first group Toroman handled, which consisted of amateurs and Filipino-foreigners. Led by Jordan Clarkson, June Mar Fajardo, Kai Sotto, and other talented players, the team is teeming with talent.
However, Toroman believes that the team needs more time to fix their chemistry, especially with the inclusion of Jordan Clarkson. Despite their win against Ivory Coast, coach Chot Reyes acknowledges that there are still some kinks in the offense that need to be addressed.
Reyes is confident that the team will improve in the next two games, particularly in terms of chemistry and turnovers. He is impressed with the performances of Scottie Thompson and Kai Sotto, who provide much-needed depth to the team.
After games against Mexico and Montenegro, Gilas Pilipinas will face the Dominican Republic and Angola in the group stage. The team aims to win at least two games to advance. Toroman, who has extensive international basketball experience, believes that this squad has what it takes to get the job done.
