  • This thrilling encounter was captured by safari visitors and shared online.

A remarkable video has been circulating online, showcasing a leopard’s failed attempt to ambush a troop of baboons.

The footage, published on August 12 by the YouTube channel Latest Sightings, captures the leopard stalking the baboons on a road in South Africa’s Kruger National Park.

The monkeys are leisurely walking down the road when the leopard suddenly pounces, causing them to scatter.

However, an exceptionally brave male baboon confronts the leopard. Despite being attacked and pinned down, he is quickly aided by his fellow baboons who successfully rescue him.

With loud screeches, the entire troop joins in to confront and chase the leopard, which ultimately flees the scene.

“Given the troop’s size, I didn’t expect the leopard to have the courage to engage,” said Ricky da Fonseca, an accountant who witnessed the incident. “But it surprised me.”

Eventually, the baboons ease off and the leopard manages to escape. According to witnesses, the leopard’s ego was probably more hurt than its body.

An alternate angle of the tussle was captured by piano professor Merve Mersinligil, who described the male baboons fiercely attacking the leopard to protect their young.
