HAYWARD, Calif. (KRON) — More than $100,000 worth of cars were stolen from a used car shop in Hayward in a daring break-in caught on video at City Motors on Mission Boulevard. Thieves took four cars and the keys to every other car on the lot, causing significant damage to the building. The general manager, Emilio Espinosa, expressed shock and a sense of violation, emphasizing the extent of the loss and damage incurred.
The surveillance footage displays the perpetrators breaking into the dealership and driving one of the stolen cars through the front of the building. Espinosa noted that the meticulousness of the crime indicates professional planning, a growing trend in the Bay Area. To make matters worse, the thieves returned after the initial police response, further exploiting the situation.
Aside from the stolen vehicles, the incident resulted in an $8,000 expense to change all the locks, with additional estimated costs of $50,000 to $60,000 for building repairs. Hoping to identify the suspects, Espinosa urged the public to come forward with any information. City Motors has been a previous target of theft, and while the manager remains optimistic about recovering the stolen cars, he appealed to the community to support their efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
