A new influx of migrants from the southern border has reached Los Angeles on Saturday, marking the 10th arrival since June 14, according to a statement from Mayor Karen Bass’ office.
“This morning, another bus carrying migrants from Texas arrived at approximately 11:08 AM PT,” said Zach Seidl, Deputy Mayor of Communications and spokesperson for Mayor Bass. “This marks the 10th time a bus has arrived in our city. We have been working closely with various city departments, the county, nonprofit organizations, and our faith partners to implement the plan we established earlier this year. Upon learning about the bus yesterday, we immediately activated our plan.”
Specific details regarding the number of migrants on the recent bus and their origin and destination are not currently available.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been coordinating these trips, citing overwhelming numbers of immigrants crossing into Texas from Mexico.
“Due to President Biden’s failure to secure the border, Texas’ small border towns are being severely impacted by the thousands of people illegally entering from Mexico,” stated Governor Abbott after the first bus arrived in Los Angeles in June.
“Los Angeles has become a popular destination for migrants, especially since its city leaders declared it a sanctuary city. Our border communities are on the front lines of President Biden’s border crisis, and Texas will continue providing assistance until he takes action to secure the border.”
The Los Angeles City Council officially designated the city as a “Sanctuary City” on June 9. On August 18, a council committee approved a motion to investigate potential crimes committed on or before June 14, when Governor Abbott sent 42 migrants to Los Angeles.
