The Santa Clarita, ANF Area’s Agua Fire Expands to 421 Acres

An overnight brush fire in the Santa Clarita area expanded to 421 acres and is currently 10% contained, as reported by authorities. The Agua Fire was first reported on Tuesday afternoon in the vicinity of Soledad Canyon and Agua Dulce Canyon roads. The fire then spread into the Angeles National Forest and required collaboration between county fire crews and U.S. Forest Service firefighters.

The fire was fought under challenging conditions, with triple-digit temperatures prompting a heat advisory for the Santa Clarita Valley. Initially estimated at 4 acres, firefighters on the scene quickly recognized its potential to spread across as many as 200 acres and called for additional crews.

While battling the blaze, one firefighter sustained minor injuries. As a precautionary measure, nearby Metrolink tracks were closed. Power lines and structures were threatened by the flames, with a nearby trailer park also at risk.

By 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday, the fire was reported to be 10% contained, according to forest service officials. As of 9 a.m. on Wednesday, containment remained the same while the fire had grown to 421 acres. The growth was attributed to the challenging terrain and limited access.

No evacuations have been ordered thus far, but a section of Soledad Canyon Road between Agua Dulce Road and Crown Valley Road has been closed. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
