  • If season two stays true to the source material, here’s where the story might go.

Netflix’s “One Piece” released its first season on Thursday, and fans are eagerly waiting for news about season two.

This live-action adaptation closely follows the East Blue Saga of the anime and manga. Season one introduces us to Monkey D. Luffy (played by Iñaki Godoy), a lighthearted and heroic pirate on a quest to become the King of the Pirates by finding the legendary treasure known as the One Piece.

Before reaching his goal, Luffy gathers a crew of misfits, each with their own grand aspirations: Roronoa Zoro (played by Mackenyu Arata), a skilled swordsman aspiring to be the world’s best; Nami (played by Emily Rudd), a thief and navigator with a dream of creating a complete map of the world; Sanji (played by Taz Skylar), a talented chef searching for the mythical sea All Blue; and Usopp (played by Jacob Romero Gibson), a compulsive liar and sharpshooter dreaming of becoming a brave warrior of the sea.

Throughout the season, the group overcomes various villainous pirates and faces off against the Marines, including Luffy’s own vice-admiral grandfather Garp (played by Vincent Regan). The season concludes with the crew setting sail for the Grand Line, a special region where the One Piece is rumored to be hidden, after Luffy receives his first bounty.

While Netflix has not yet renewed the series for a second season, the ending of season one teases a new antagonist and suggests that the potential focus of season two could be the Arabasta Saga from the original manga.

Warning: This section contains major spoilers for the Arabasta Saga and Loguetown Arc of the “One Piece” anime and manga.
