On Wednesday, Pascale Cecile Veronique Ferrier, a 55-year-old dual citizen of France and Canada, pleaded guilty to mailing threatening letters containing the poison ricin to former President Trump. According to CNN, Ferrier sent the letters from Canada in September 2020 and was arrested while attempting to cross the US border. In the letters, she accused Trump of destroying the United States of America and expressed her dissatisfaction with his presidency. The letters were intercepted at a mail sorting facility, as reported by NBC News.

Aside from mailing ricin to the White House, Ferrier also sent the poison to eight law enforcement officials in Texas, whom she believed were involved in her previous detention. She threatened to resort to another poison if the ricin didn’t work, or to use her gun when the opportunity arose. The ricin was produced at her home in Quebec. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April, and if her plea agreement is accepted by the court, she is likely to be sentenced to nearly 22 years in prison. (Read more ricin stories.)
