The Orange County Register reports a continuous decrease in support for Sen. Dianne Feinstein among local voters.

The Public Policy Institute of California recently conducted a survey where it was found that approval of California Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s job performance has decreased among Orange County voters. The survey was completed by 219 likely voters and adults in Orange and San Diego counties. Approval ratings have dropped to 30%, a reduction of 10% from March 2022, when the rating was 41%, and a decrease of 7% from October 2022 when it was at 37%. According to experts, her sudden absence from the Senate this year due to illness may be a reason for her decreasing popularity. In fact, all five geographic regions surveyed reported an approval rating of only 28% except for Los Angeles, which had 36%, down from 47% in March 2022. The senator, who is not running for reelection, is currently being scrutinized due to her medical condition. A Chapman University professor of Political Science stated that the senator is losing support, as she is viewed as not being well enough to perform her job effectively. The proposed budget by Governor Gavin Newsom also received low favorability ratings. Newsom shared that the budget deficit is approaching $32 billion, and his revised annual budget plan, including total budgetary reserves of $37.2 billion, $15.3 billion aid to combat homelessness, $800 million in public safety allocations, and $1.6 billion for free school meals, needs to be passed by the state legislature by June 15.
