The One Thing Melissa McCarthy Disliked About Filming ‘Gilmore Girls’

If you thought that the charming, idyllic town of Stars Hollow from “Gilmore Girls” was too good to be true, you were right. Melissa McCarthy, who played Sookie St. James on the beloved series, recently revealed her “least favorite” aspect of working on the show. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, McCarthy explained that despite the show’s New England setting, the actual set was located in Burbank, California, where temperatures could reach 112 degrees Fahrenheit. McCarthy humorously described the situation of being bundled up in coats while sweating, joking about having “malaria” and being in a “flop sweat.” She even recounted an incident where someone passed out during the shooting of the Season 1 promotional poster due to the heat.

When asked about her character’s current situation, McCarthy imagined Sookie and her husband, Jackson, dealing with the stress of having many children by growing and cooking weed, including edibles. McCarthy also indirectly addressed the controversy surrounding her absence from the Netflix revival, hinting at her busy schedule at the time. Nevertheless, she made a brief cameo appearance in the final episode of “A Year in the Life.”

Despite the challenges and drama, McCarthy’s star power has risen since her breakout role in “Bridesmaids,” making her a sought-after comedic actor in Hollywood. However, fans were grateful that Sookie appeared without a coat in her scene.
